Bhagavad Gita on Sex and the Desire

Bhagavad Gita on Sex, it doesn’t talk about sex. Rather its talk about desire which in turn covers up sexual desire, hence the heading Bhagavad Gita on sex and the desire. I know you might be disappointed but plz read on. I am sure you will feel guided and enlightened at the end of the blog. This is the beauty of Bhagvad Gita it says many things in a few words.

Gita talks about Kaam i.e. the desire and not just sex or lust as generally translated by many scholars. Shri Krishna tells Arjun that beings are never satisfied because of never-ending desires, for eg. even if your partner is the sexiest being and have a lot of money, fame and even highly spiritual or say philosophical but you would still have the desire for someone else ( eg Hrithik and Suzane though both are rich & good looking & spiritual too but still are divorced).

Bhagavad Gita on Desire

Krishna further tells Arjun that as smokes cover up the fire, dust cover up a mirror similarly desires cover up the knowledge of a being. A desire for anything and not just sex dilutes your subconscious knowledge. Hence Shri Krishna repeatedly tells Arjun to control the desires.

This doesn’t mean that a being should not have a desire at all. Desire is necessary for our survival but we should not start worshipping our desire i.e. Kamdev ( the one whom Shiva burned by his 3rd eye i.e. destroyed his desires). Now worshipping doesn’t mean in a literal sense but in a sense that you should not be too possessive about your desire.

We will always have an attraction towards the opposite sex, it is natural but it has no end you can go on changing your partner every day or as you become bored but after sometime nobody will trust you and in turn you will not be able to trust anybody and will eventually become lonely, your children if there are any from your previous relationship will not respect you and you will not even be respected in the society. So here Gita explains a very beautiful aspect of life i.e. sex without even going to specifications and it indirectly says that we should control our urges.

Bhagavad Gita on Money

Similarly to sex money is required, it is necessary for our survival but we are never satisfied with it. The salary we are getting or the enumeration we are getting is never enough. Similar things happen with fame, cars or beauty. The desire never ends. In Gita chapter 2 verse 37, Shri Krishna says

hato va prapsyasi svargam
jitva va bhoksyase mahim
tasmad uttistha kaunteya
yuddhaya krta-niscayah

Translation of the same is “O son of Kunti, either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly planets. Or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom. Therefore get up and fight with determination”.

In this above para, you can clearly see Shri Krishna is motivating Arjuna to fight for the power and money which comes with the kingdom. So nowhere spirituality means begging and living in misery, but instead, it motivates you to fight. Fight for your rights. If any religion or anyone asks you to do that, just understand that he or she is fake.

We want to look beautiful, its good that you want to look beautiful, but plastic surgery, ok once a while but repeated surgeries, it is just a waste of resources for something which is inevitable.

This is the reason Shri Krishna ask Shri Arjun to practice Yog i.e. the art of balanced approach, in everything right from thought process to eating and clothing.

If you observe how Shri Krishna use to dress, you would see that he use to dress just like the Kings of that era as he himself became a King.

His entire life is a source of inspiration. He used to love Radha but was not able to marry her for some reason, but he stood by himself. His own uncle tries to Kill him, but he survived. He lived a King Life.

He is my Hero. I hope you got some clarity about teachings of Bhagavad Gita on Sex and the Desire.
