TRANSLATION Of Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya

Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion at that time I descend Myself.

Now what does this actually means. Sometimes most of the verses of Gita are taken too seriously by us. Which actually are very subtle and practical.

Millions of innocent children were killed in Syria & Iraq, Million of people were killed in India during partition and million were killed in world war as well as man-made famine. Where was God then?

In Gita itself Lord Krishna repeatedly tells Arjun that “neither ever there will be a time that I will not be there or you will not be there or the other people who are present in the battlefield will not be present”. So if he is present at every era than why he is saying that he will take birth only when discrepancies increase too much.

The fact of the matter is that there will be in each era a “Seeker”i.e. Arjun, and an ” Enlightened Person” i.e. Krishna and the others i.e. the fighters who live a normal life other than the Seeker and the enlightened person. This enlightened person i.e. a Gyani as said in Gita itself is nothing “but my own living entity of that era”. Below is the verse

Chapter 7: TEXT 17

tesam jnani nitya-yukta
eka-bhaktir visisyate
priyo hi jnanino ‘tyartham
aham sa ca mama priyah.

So Krishna is here right now and is taking birth every now and then but whether you are capable to see him. Imagine a person coming forward to You and says that he is Lord Vishnu Avatar. Will you believe him? I suppose you will ask him to lift the Himalaya. Even if he lifts Himalaya will you consider him God or will you consider him Allien?

You will be able to know GOD when the desperation will increase so much within you that you will start to feel shaky, you will not able to stand, your heart will shrink inside in depression, and then when you will seek for help from the knowledge of Gita. In other words you will have to reach the condition of Arjuna as described in Gita. When this happens that day god will manifest it self within you. It is not outside that God take birth but it is rather inside.

Taxi Services in Delhi:

As per techsciresearch India, taxi market stood at around $ 6.4 billion in 2016 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 13.7% during 2017 – 2022, to reach $ 14.3 billion. Which appears to be good news for the players who are in taxi services in Delhi.

Some of the major players operating taxi services in delhi are ANI Technologies Private Limited, Uber India Technology Private Limited, Meru Cab Company Pvt. Ltd., Wings Travel India Management Private Limited, Carzonrent (India) Pvt. Ltd, Zoomcar India Private Ltd, Voler Car Private Limited, AVIS, Saavari, Fast Track Call Cab Private Limited.

These figures looks quite attractive but the ground reality is quite different, because these big numbers lies with the management of these big companies who plays with the number but unfortunately are totally unaware of ground reality, they are eating up all the juices of the fruit and leaving only the seeds of fruit for the driver. They themselves are drawing a handsome Salary. Taxi fares are pretty low in Delhi right now due to excessive competition

The main drawback of corporate taxi services in Delhi right now are:

  1. Drivers are themselves made to buy vehicle on loan.
  2. Most drivers are generally not good with finance numbers and hence are not able to evaluate the running cost of vehicles and hence demand right fare from the companies.
  3. Maintenance cost of vehicle is not considered by these companies, which can go up to 1 to 2 Lac INR for engine overhauling.
  4. Depreciation cost of vehicle.
  5. Cost of various paper work such as insurance permit, pollution are not considered by these companies.
  6. Inflation in fuel prices which rises mostly , depreciates rarely.
  7. Personal expenses of Driver which include food/house rent / school fees of children / Emi of car,
  8. The cost of buying new vehicle after old vehicle is exhausted.
  9. Some of these companies hold the payment of cab owners for almost 45 to 50 days and even after calling them 100 times payment may not be made.
  10. Some of the above companies charges hefty commission for duty which can go as high as up to 40 %, these companies are generally who have corporate clients, but how the hell driver would maintain his car for corporate if he gets peanuts.
  11. Due to high incentive initially offered by ola & uber the number of Vehicles have increased drastically resulting in higher competition and hence lesser profit.

These drawback are not limited to the drivers but have a negative impact on the society as a whole, low income, higher working hour, harassment by goons of banks will ultimately lead to a generation of frustrated individuals, the outcome of which is already prevalent in the form of strikes, breaking of taxis of ola & uber taxis, I hope that this balloon of unsatisfied drivers agony is diffused before it inflates and result in mob lynching.

Future :

Right now future is pretty uncertain of taxi market business as a whole in India as the diesel prices is almost equivalent to that of petrol, so saving is not much on diesel engine, plus the validity of registration of commercial diesel vehicle has been reduced to 5 years, so as soon as a vendor pays off the loan he has to buy new diesel vehicle or change it to white number, this again will lead to malpractices also we are not sure when the government one fine day will ban diesel vehicle and ask for electrical vehicle.

Taxi market will be stabilised again when the person such as doctors, engineers, lawyers and all the tom dick and harry who had earlier entered this profession by buying a vehicle and giving it to a driver due to the lure offered earlier by Ola and Uber will slowly leave this profession.

“Karm karo fal ki chinta mat karo“, when translated to english it means “Do your act and don’t think about the outcome”.

Many people raise question over the relevance of this statement in the real word. I love the question on this statement of “Bhagavad Gita” as I myself as a child use to question the authenticity of this statement, and use to wonder that how could I score runs in cricket while batting If I don’t think about winning.

The answer to this question is very simple and can be answered by a statement only, like “ You will go to jail definitely

Confused na, the above statement is a statement but does it make a sense, because I have given you only a part of a statement. The complete statement was suppose for eg: “ If you commit a heinous crime and get caught by police, “ You will go to jail definitely

The complete paragraph has given us a clear statement. This was just an example.

This is what is happening when you don’t read the statement before and after the verse in which Shri Krishna stated

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।

मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥2.47 // karm karo fal ki chinta mat karo//

There are 18 chapters in Gita and about I think close to 700 verse without reading at least most of them we are stressing on one point which doesn’t make any sense.

Gita is a book, not a paragraph, don’t try to get a summary of a book from one paragraph.

Gita also say this

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय।

सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते।।2.48।।

meaning yoga-sthah—steadfast in yoga; kuru—perform; karmani—your duty; sangam—attachment; tyaktva—having abandoned; dhananjaya—O Dhananjaya; siddhi-asiddhyoh—in success and failure; samah—the same; bhutva—having become; samatvam—evenness of mind; yogah-yoga; ucyate—is called.

Samatvam yog Uchayate: meaning “to have a balanced approach towards everything, is called Yoga”, balanced approach towards loss, towards victory, towards hitting a sixer to getting bold in the first ball, all you can do is work hard practice you have authority over yourself not on the results not on the outcomes.

Here in the above statement, verse 2.47, Shri Krishna is saying to Arjun

“You have control over performing your act, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never be a slave to the outcome of an act but still, you should not be demotivated to perform your action.

Be in a state of yoga, Arjuna. Perform your duty and abandon all attachment to success or failure. Such evenness of mind is called yoga”

“ Perform your duties without being in the dilemma of emerging out as a winner or looser”

Don’t presume Krishna to be some kind of Allien or Superhuman, but feel him as a human with superb clarity of thoughts.

Starting a Taxi Business in India

Starting a Taxi Business in India is not a piece of cake anymore. Indian taxi market was attractive but it is not so attractive now, every tom dick & harry is now in this business. Anyone who doesn’t know anything can come in this line,  because of google maps, you don’t need to have any knowledge of roads.

Still, in long run, this business will prove beneficial to those who can sustain because like any other business this business has too much competition. With big corporate to individual taxi owner each trying to exploit the market. You have to bear breakdown cost &  accidental cost. Have to handle manpower in the form of drivers and some rude customers too.

Type of Taxi Industry

When you are thinking of getting into the taxi business in India the first thing that you need to take care of is the selection of the type of taxis you are going to use. As the taxi line is having lots of branches such as Tourist taxi which is generally used for travelling outside the city, intracity cabs like ola & uber or taxi for corporate offices like a call centre. Each one has different requirement plus you can also opt for 4 seaters or 6 seater cab or a combination of both type of car in your fleet.

Fuel Choices

Regarding the type of fuel, I would suggest going for Petrol CNG because:

  • Petrol only & Diesel fuel are too costly.
  • Diesel engine permit for the commercial car is for 5 years only right now in Delhi NCR.
  • Frequent change of laws for diesel taxi.
  • Right now the difference between diesel and petrol price is not much, also a commercial petrol cum CNG car gets 10-year permit to compare to 5 years of diesel hence chances of earning is more in petrol CNG car.

Go for brand new car purchase only but always purchase car on loan, there are few benefits for this.

  • Maintenance cost will be less of a new car.
  • In case of an accident, your entire amount is not wiped out though you would get claim it takes time.
  • It is easier to sell a car which is on loan as the down payment amount is low.
  • You can pay the down payment of the car from the car itself.

Suppose you had a bank balance of 20 lacs for business then you can keep 10 lacs as a backup

and for other 10 lacs, you can buy at least 6 cars on EMI.

Avoid going for a used car as you don’t have any warranty on any parts and doesn’t matter how good a mechanic you go to he will not be able to diagnose a sleeping problem.

Now comes the most important component.

DRIVER

A driver is the captain of the ship, you have to acknowledge that and have to give him due respect for the same. But at the same time, you should make him accountable too. Do some research on how much salary is the norm in your area. Generally, the taxi line is very wide comprising of outstation, ola uber, call centre etc and each one has there own rule for salary.

You should also do accord with the driver. In case of any physical damage to the vehicle due to the accident, the driver alone will be responsible for any amount which is not covered in insurance. Generally, most of the expenses are covers by insurance. But still depending on case to case 5000 to 10000 rs is charged.  You also don’t get any “no claim” bonus too when you renew the insurance.

Regarding permits and all other stuff, you will be guided well by the vehicle seller.  They will charge a hefty commission in the name of delivering of various completed documents at your doorstep, which if you do by yourself will cost much cheaper but will cost you time.

GPS

You don’t need to have a large garage in order to park your taxi.  You can ask the driver to park the car in his backyard but do have GPS installed in them otherwise, the driver will take for a run. Get an online presence with the help of Google and local players like justdial, so that people can call your company up whenever they are in need of a taxi.

Another factor which plays a crucial role in this business pertains to the drivers. Make sure you do not get rash drivers but responsible and good ones because they are the ones who would be responsible for your taxis. So choose your taxi drivers wisely because they can make or break your taxi business in India.

IGI Airport Boon for Taxi Business

For the first time, the Delhi airport breached the 6 crore passenger and handled 6.35 crore passengers in 2017 which makes it to around 1.5 to 2 lac passenger per day, so suppose if 50 % of all the traveler book a taxi at least 75000 to 1 lac taxi are required everyday on the airport itself, making it to the list of the top 20 busiest airports of the world and also great source of revenue earning for the local population.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport became the seventh most busiest in Asia. This year, it is expected to breach the 7 crores mark and will operating beyond its capacity.

This is a huge business opportunity for taxi business as well as most of the passengers enjoy the luxury of taxi.

Over the last seven years, Delhi airport’s traffic has almost doubled and its share of transfer passengers increased from 9.3% in 2010-11 to 20.5% in 2016-17.

The airport, which already has three runways, will also become the first in the country to have a fourth runway with construction likely to begin this year. Airport officials are expecting to commission the fourth runway by 2019, which will take the per hour capacity of Delhi airport from 75 flights to 96.

Founder and MD Meru Cab

In Hindu mythology, Mount Meru helped the gods and demons extract nectar during the churning of the ocean. In many ways, Meru Cabs, named after the mountain, has sped past road-weary, inefficient taxi services in India and taken metered cabs to a new level.

Neeraj Gupta, Founder and MD Meru Cabs, was inspired by similar services in London and Singapore, where he would often travel with his wife.

Gupta sensed an opportunity in running a fleet of air-conditioned, GPS-linked, electronic metered taxis in Mumbai when the Maharashtra government invited tenders for such a service for 10,000 cabs, replacing the old black-and-yellow taxis in 2006.

His confidence stemmed from running taxi services for BPOs and corporate clients. He was certain such a service would be an instant hit in India if a service provider could cash in on urban Indians’ aspirations.

So he took the plunge, but money was a problem. To attract private equity investment, Gupta corporatised his operations by creating a holding structure. A holding company, V-Link Travel Solutions, was floated to own two wholly-owned arms, V-Link Fleet Solutions which was running the pick-up services for BPOs and V-Link Taxis, the new firm launched to run air-conditioned taxis in Mumbai.

India Value Fund invested Rs 50 crore in the parent company in December 2006 to help finance Mr Gupta’s foray in the air-conditioned taxi market. The fund promised to pay another Rs 160 crore when required. Further, it enlisted the services of Accenture, KPMG and E&Y; to prepare the accounts and audit. Three India Value Fund representatives and Gupta make up the company’s board. Gupta says his association with the PE investor has been his best bet yet, as without it, it would have been impossible to get marquee consultants on board.

Meru now runs a fleet of 5,000 taxis in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi and has 700 employees. The company has a topline of Rs 100 crore. It is likely turn in a profit in 2011, and targets sales of Rs 180 crore that year.

The market, says Mr Gupta, has grown from zero to 10,000 units in the past three years.

What has also stood Meru in good stead is its investment in technology. The company has developed its own software which directs the nearest taxi driver to pick up customers. “We spend Rs 60,000 apiece to set up the device, including the credit card swipe machine, in each taxi,” says Mr Gupta.

Meru is working on a technology to offer TV services in its cabs. It earns 10% of revenues from advertisements painted on the car front. The company plans to launch a dedicated workshop for the 1,700 cabs it runs in India, in association with India Value Fund.

Gupta’s entrepreneurial journey began with an automobile garage he opened with a friend in Mumbai with an initial corpus of Rs 1 lakh. The garage, ‘Elite Class’ entered into long-term contracts with corporates.

One such deal, for pick-up and drop services with Tata Infotech, was the turning point. A new company, Travel Link, was formed to execute the service. An 18-seater bus was acquired for Rs 14 lakh in 1999.

Gupta’s main challenge is to keep pace with the rising demand for Meru cabs, and the Mumbaikar crib that cabs are not always available. “The demand for our service has grown manifold but we are unable to scale up driver numbers rapidly,” says Gupta.

State government norms, which make it mandatory for drivers to read and write Marathi and stay in Mumbai for at least 10 years to get driving licences, are partly to blame. Meru also carries out rigorous checks of drivers’ records, to maintain the spotless reputation it has enjoyed so far.

Through it all, Gupta uses an old road saying to guide him. “I’d better be safe than sorry,” he says.
